A model designed for players seeking depth, tonal richness, and maximum musicality — ideal for classical settings, small ensembles, and applications that require a fuller, more refined sound.
Mark Upton began studying trumpet at the age of six, influenced by his parents, both professional trumpet players. From an early age, he demonstrated exceptional talent, performing with ensembles such as Kent County Youth Orchestra and others.
He studied at the Royal Marines School of Music, where he earned top honors including the Parker Cup and recognition from the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
Mark served as principal trumpet in the Royal Marines Band, performing at prestigious venues such as Royal Albert Hall and major international events including the London 2012 Olympics.
Today, he works as a freelance musician and educator, performing and teaching worldwide.
This model was developed to provide a rich, full-bodied and balanced sound, ideal for players who require tonal depth and musical nuance. It retains the same rim profile as the Studio model for comfort and familiarity.
This mouthpiece shares the same rim design as the MU Studio Model, offering a comfortable and consistent feel. Its deeper cup enhances lower overtones, producing a darker, fuller and more resonant sound.
Despite its larger design, it maintains excellent response and does not sacrifice range, avoiding the common compression loss found in larger mouthpieces.
According to Mark, this is his go-to mouthpiece for smaller classical settings, ensemble playing, lower section parts, and even jazz applications where a darker tone is desired.
