Description

The Padovani Music MR5 Light Mouthpiece with Resonator was developed for musicians looking for strong rim support, comfort, projection, and a fast, centered response, in an intermediate size within the MR line.

The main characteristic of the MR line is its wide, rounded rim, which is the widest rim among Padovani Music's conventional trumpet mouthpiece lines. This larger contact surface distributes the pressure of the mouthpiece against the lips over a wider area, providing a greater sense of support and comfort for many players.

Because of this characteristic, the MR5 is especially recommended for players who prefer substantial rim support while playing. Musicians who prefer a narrower rim, with greater freedom for embouchure movement and a more defined contact sensation, may adapt better to other lines such as the M or S.

The inner edge of the rim also features a rounded profile. This allows the lips to enter slightly farther into the cup while playing, which can make the mouthpiece feel slightly smaller than its nominal inner diameter might suggest.

Its medium-shallow cup promotes a fast response, more focused projection, and a bright, defined tone. The MR5 sits very close between the MR3 and MR7, serving as an intermediate option for players who want to fine-tune their mouthpiece size without making a major change in embouchure feel.

The dimensional difference between these models is very subtle: the MR5 has only 0.05 mm less inner diameter than the MR3 and 0.05 mm more than the MR7. Although small, this variation may be noticeable to players who are particularly sensitive to rim size and the amount of space available for the embouchure.

This combination makes the MR5 an excellent choice for popular music, Salsa, Mariachi, Lead Trumpet, bands, and playing situations that require projection, definition, agility, and strong sound presence.

Resonator

Padovani Music resonators, available in several finishes, provide not only a distinctive visual appearance but also variations in tone and projection. The player can use the mouthpiece with or without the resonator, adjusting the sound according to personal preference and musical needs.

  • With resonator: darker, smoother sound with more centered projection
  • Without resonator: brighter tone with more open projection

What is the difference?

The MR5 is an intermediate size between the MR3 and MR7. The differences are small, but they allow the player to fine-tune the choice according to embouchure and preferred rim support:

  • 🔹 MR3 Light: has an inner diameter of 16.30 mm, only 0.05 mm larger than the MR5. This small difference provides slightly more room for the embouchure and a somewhat broader feel, while the MR5 offers a slightly more compact and focused fit.
  • 🔹 MR7 Light: has an inner diameter of 16.20 mm, only 0.05 mm smaller than the MR5. The MR7 provides a slightly more compact feel and may further favor focus and ease in the upper register, while the MR5 retains a little more internal space.

Because these differences are very small, the choice between MR3, MR5 and MR7 is closely related to each player's sensitivity, adaptation and personal preference.
